5 Tips To Maintain Healthier Nails At Home

Updated: Apr 15, 2021

With the closure of salons in Ontario, the Allure team came up with some tips for you to easily maintain your nails right in the comfort of your own home!

TIP #1: DIET

When it comes to diet, make sure you are eating foods high in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Good nutrition will reflect in your nail health. Biotin vitamins are great to strengthen hair and nails.

Stay hydrated & drink water! When your body is dehydrated it can result in brittle weak nails that peel and break easily.

TIP #2: USE CUTICLE OIL!

Just like you have a skincare routine, have a hand and nail routine. A good cuticle oil will go a LONG way to keeping your nails healthy. Cuticle oil should be applied 1-2 times daily. Put a drop on each nail and rub in thoroughly. Another good tip is to leave the oil on your bed side so you remember to put it on right before you sleep. This is when the oil will penetrate without interruptions (such as hand washing).

Blume oil (An Allure Nail Bar signature) is an amazing organic oil infused with aloe vera & vitamin E just to name a few.

TIP #3: Give yourself a mini mani / nail clean up!

Keep your natural nails at a length that works for you (if you are very hands on, keep them shorter). File your nails with a nail file so it doesn’t snag on something and accidentally break, ouch! Keep your toe nails shorter to avoid risk of injury. We recommend you do a mini mani at home every 2 weeks, and mini pedi every 4 weeks (Cut/file/push back cuticles). Finish off your manicure with a nail strengthener. Don’t be intimated, it isn't nearly as detailed as what we do in the salon! We have simple tutorials available through @allurenailtutorials on Instagram with free access to those that purchase our mani-pedi sets.

The mani/pedi sets are available for curbside pickup at Allure Nail Bar.

Tip #4: Treat your nails with care

Wear gloves when you can. Try not to use your nails to do everyday tasks – but instead, try using your finger pads. Stop biting your nails!

Tip #5: Don’t rip off your nail enhancements

Since salons are closed for the next few weeks, you may have run out of ideas on how to safely remove your nails. Don’t fret! We have some tips for safe removals.

  1. We sell at home gel polish removal kits available for curbside pickup! A free tutorial video will come with your purchase. Click here to purchase

  2. If you aren’t able to get your hands on a gel polish removal kit, we highly recommend you NOT to pick off the polish. Instead, file your nails as they get longer, and eventually the enhancement will fully grow out.

We hope you find these 5 nail tips useful to maintain healthier nails on your own. If you have any questions or would like more tips, please don’t hesitate to contact us, we are always here to help!
